I’m in Yorkshire but off to Manchester tomorrow for the commemoration of the anniversary of the Peterloo massacre.
It marked a turning point for UK democracy and acknowledgement of the struggles of the poor and vulnerable.
It was around a hundred years before my great grandfather, a doctor and lecturer, lived in Manchester. I don’t know what he would have thought but apparently he did found the Manchester branch of the Fabian Society during his time there.
