Lavender update

3 weeks until open ‘pick your own’ weekend.
We had approx 3000 ppl over the weekend the last couple of years. There’s massages with aromatherapy oils, food, drink, lavender products on sale, different types of lavender and also cuttings from our own field. So if you are a gardener or know one who might be interested…
When is the best time to visit?
If you come first thing Saturday , you will have warm lavender bread straight from our local bakery and the choice of the field but if you come later, you get to see the distilling of the morning harvest by ‘The Master’ and discuss the process for making the oil.
I had some bread Saturday evening and it was still delicious. If you come on Sunday, it will be a bit quieter, there probably won’t be lavender bread left, but usually plenty of lavender biscuits. A 2/3 hour visit (if you’re having refreshments) is probably enough then you can always head up the road to glide through the gorgeous purple rows of Mayfield lavender
I don’t think we will get all our rows ready for machine harvesting unless we get more help to remove the high grass but I’ve removed most of the worst brambles hopefully and the top end rows are now penetrable for hand harvesting.
As long as you don’t mind the odd bee or two 😉
