St Petersburg

So happy to be here. The air is fresh, trees are budding and coming into leaf. Food is fantastic.

My travel companion born in 1938 which makes for interesting conversations, had not managed to learn Russian & alphabet before coming but with some help from me, she worked out Stop on road signs from the airport and was managing to work out much more as we strolled along Nevskiy Prospekt this evening.

In spite of age difference we haven’t killed each other (yet) and it has been a dream for her to come here. With the light evenings a lot of people of different ages out and about. Sky was amazing earlier, the white cranes against the grey clouds and sunlight are stunning, this doesn’t really do it justice but

Local residents are really kind, helpful and friendly everywhere we have been. And Passport Control staff smiling too if you try a basic polite greeting in Russian. Nevskiy Prospekt in the evening sunlight earlier:
